
DR FATHIMA DOCRAT
ABOUT THE DOCTOR & THE PRACTICE
After completing her MBCHB degree at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University in 2008, Dr Fathima Docrat went on to do her internship and community service at Kalafong Hospital in Pretoria. She then joined Steve Biko Academic Hospital as a medical officer, working in the Department of Surgery, in 2012. Dr Docrat then became a Registrar in March of 2013 as part of her training to specialise in General Surgery.
She obtained her qualification in General Surgery at the University of Pretoria through the Fellowship of the College of Surgeons of South Africa: FCS (SA). Yearning for more knowledge, Dr Docrat worked to obtain her Master of Medicine in the specialty of Surgery in which she graduated in the top 15% of her class and received a Golden Key award. Her thesis was titled “Evaluation of factors affecting the outcome of radio-iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism”. Where she was appointed as head of the Breast and Endocrine Unit Steve Biko Academic Hospital where she gained extensive experience and skill.
With her experience in the field of breast surgery, Dr Docrat is an extremely skilful general surgeon with a particular interest and niche in breast surgery and surgical treatment of breast cancer and breast tumours through modified radical mastectomy and breast conserving surgery.
